Mantrigam, April 23: Government Higher Secondary School Mantrigam today organised a day‑long series of activities to celebrate Earth Day under the leadership of Principal Masoodul Hassan. The school’s Eco Club, overseen by lecturer Iftikhar Rashid, coordinated events that drew enthusiastic participation from students across all grades.
The programme opened during morning assembly with thought‑provoking speeches by Vice Principal and Senior Botany Lecturer Mohammad Iqbal Magray and Eco Club in‑charge Iftikhar Rashid. In his special Earth Day address, Principal Hassan called on the entire school community to unite in safeguarding the planet, easing environmental distress, and mitigating the economic and social impacts of climate change.
Echoing the UN’s Earth Day 2025 theme, students engaged in a variety of eco‑friendly activities on campus, from poster‑making and slogan competitions to tree‑planting and waste‑segregation demonstrations. Highlighting the school’s commitment to innovation in sustainability, Principal Hassan unveiled the digitisation of the campus flora: QR codes affixed to trees and shrubs link to detailed, student‑created profiles of each species.
“This project will allow anyone to learn about our school’s plants with a single scan,” he explained, noting that the initiative harnesses the latest technology to deepen environmental stewardship.
Staff and students alike praised the day’s events. “Celebrating Earth Day together reminds us that every small action counts,” said one participant. The school plans to expand its eco‑projects throughout the year, continuing to foster awareness and collective responsibility for the environment.
