New Delhi, April 22: In a resounding tribute to the valour and sacrifice of India’s armed forces, more than 5,000 runners participated in the maiden edition of ‘Soldierathon – Run for Soldiers and Run with Soldiers’ at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi on April 20.

Jointly organised by Army Hospital (R&R) and Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat, the event brought together veterans, serving soldiers, civilians, students, and fitness enthusiasts in a unique celebration of patriotism, unity, and public support for the Armed Forces.

The Soldierathon featured three race categories – a 10 km timed run, a 5 km fun run, and a 3 km walk – designed to promote inclusivity and mass participation. Runners had the rare opportunity to share the track with Indian soldiers, drawing strength from their resilience, discipline, and unwavering spirit of service.

The event was flagged off by Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), in the presence of top military officials, including the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area, DGMS (Navy), DGMS (Air), and the Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R).

Amidst an atmosphere charged with patriotic fervour, the event paid homage to the country’s defence personnel while also raising crucial funds for the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Kirkee, Pune. The centre provides specialised care and rehabilitation services to soldiers injured in the line of duty.

Organisers hailed the overwhelming turnout as a powerful statement of solidarity with the nation’s heroes and a step forward in fostering a culture of fitness and respect for the armed forces among the citizens.
