Srinagar, Apr 22 : Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said that the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is in the national interest as it will not only save valuable resources but also give a significant push to the country’s GDP.

While addressing media persons in Srinagar, Thakur said that holding simultaneous elections would help avoid repeated administrative slowdowns and huge expenditure caused by frequent polls.

“A large amount of capital will be saved through this system, which will ultimately boost the economy,” he said.

According to KNS correspondent, Thakur also took a strong dig at the Congress party, raising questions on its stand over several key national issues including Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Babri Masjid verdict, and the abolition of triple talaq.

He said the BJP-led government had taken historical decisions that have not only strengthened the nation but also empowered marginalized communities, including Muslims. “Bills like the Waqf Bill, NRC, CAA, and others have been framed with the broader interest of the people in mind, especially minorities,” Thakur remarked.

Speaking about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP leader said that the region has witnessed remarkable improvement in law and order under the present government. He, however, acknowledged the recent incidents of militancy in parts of Jammu and asserted that strict action is being taken against those involved. “A zero-tolerance policy will be maintained against militancy,” he emphasized.

Thakur also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for making statements against India on foreign soil. “It is unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi continues to speak against India even in America,” he said. (KNS)
