Srinagar, April 17: Teachers and staff engaged in winter tutorials across far-flung areas of Kashmir Valley during the 2024-25 winter season have appealed to the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to release the promised leave encashment benefits.
As per directives from the DSEK, winter schooling was conducted in several districts to bridge learning gaps among students. These sessions, held in selected institutions, aimed to improve academic outcomes and were reportedly carried out with enthusiasm by both staff and students.
Media reports had earlier highlighted the encouraging participation of students from remote areas and the commitment shown by teaching staff in challenging weather conditions.
However, some of the engaged teachers raised concerns, stating that the leave encashment — which was promised as a bonus for their services — has not been granted yet. They said the assurance was publicly given by the Director in a press statement during the winter session.
“We delivered our duties with full dedication despite the harsh conditions, believing the department’s word. But till date, no formal order for leave encashment has been issued,” said one of the aggrieved teachers.
The staff have made a fervent appeal to the Director School Education Kashmir to look into the matter and ensure that the promised benefits are provided without further delay. They said fulfilling the commitment would boost the morale of ground-level workers and strengthen trust in departmental assurances.
