Bandipora: Moul Mouj Foundation (MMF), in collaboration with GK Labs, Ummeed Foundation and Baitul Maal Kaloosa organized a free medical camp for senior citizens in Kaloosa village, Bandipora, as part of its ongoing “Elders Deserve Better”initiative.

The camp provided comprehensive healthcare services, including medical screenings, mental health consultations, health education, dietary counselling, and free distribution of medicines and nutraceuticals. Essential blood investigations were conducted for all 105 elderly attendees.

Notably, the camp emphasized early diagnosis and holistic care. Several previously undetected conditions were identified—four seniors were diagnosed with diabetes for the first time (one with critically high blood sugar at 452 mg/dl), while six others were found to have hypertension (with readings as high as 190/120 mmHg). Many known diabetic and hypertensive patients were found undertreated, prompting immediate adjustments to their care plans.

Dr. Zubair Saleem, Senior Geriatric Consultant, remarked, “While urban neglect of elders is often discussed, we see similar abandonment in remote areas. Additionally, the lack of point-of-care and cardiac equipment in such regions poses significant challenges—we aim to partner with institutions to bridge these gaps.

The Director of GK Labs stated, “Our mission is to ensure diagnostic equity. We are committed to reaching the elderly, even if they cannot access urban healthcare facilities.”

Parvaiz Fareed, CEO of Ummeed Foundation, added, “Improving healthcare in underserved areas of J&K is our priority. This initiative ensures our elders receive care in their most vulnerable years.

Attendees expressed gratitude, with one saying, “I never knew I had diabetes—thanks to this camp, I received timely treatment and medication.”Another added, “I now understand the importance of protein in my diet and self-care.”

Javaid Jawad, Best Teacher Awardee and Headmaster at GMS Ongam, coordinated the camp and acknowledged the enrollment of five neglected seniors into MMF’s Lifetime Privilege Card program, granting them free lifelong consultations, tests, and medications.

Held at Baitul Maal, Kaloosa Muslim Abad, the initiative underscores MMF’s commitment to inclusive, compassionate elder care—reaching even the most marginalized communities.
