Pampore, April 16: In a spirited celebration of youth, fitness, and community, the Khunmoh area of Srinagar witnessed a vibrant Inter-School Sports Festival that brought together more than 250 students from various local schools. The event was jointly organized by the Khunmoh Football Fraternity Zone in collaboration with Engineering Zaffran Enterprises and sponsored by the Public Welfare Trust Khunmoh.

The festival was inaugurated in the presence of Public Welfare President Zahoor Ahmad, SHO Khunmoh Showkat Ali, civil society member Riyaz Ahmad, Engineering Zone head Zahoor Ahmad Lone, JKAS officer Basit Nabi Khan, and other dignitaries.

Held at the Sports Stadium in Khunmoh, the festival included four games—football and volleyball for boys, and badminton and kho-kho for girls. Four schools participated, fielding a total of 16 teams, and winners were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals for first, second, and third places respectively.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, President of the Football Fraternity, Burhan Ayoub, said that the primary goal of the event was to steer children away from mobile screens and drugs and channel their energy into healthy physical activities. “This festival is part of a larger mission to help students grow into responsible citizens who may one day represent the state and the country in sports,” he said.

Waseem Ahmad, another member of the organizing committee, echoed this sentiment, stressing the need to curb rising screen time among children.

President of Public Welfare Trust, Zahoor Ahmad, recalled the area’s past struggles with drug abuse and highlighted how coordinated efforts by civil society, elders, and the trust had helped bring about change.

He emphasized that organizing regular events like the sports festival helps sustain these positive outcomes by giving youth healthy and productive outlets. “We want to keep their minds and bodies engaged so that they stay on the right path,” he added.
