Bandipora, April 14: In a unique initiative aimed at fostering stronger community-police relations, Bandipora Police on Sunday hosted students from Faiz-e-Aam Secondary School for an immersive and interactive visit to the Police Station Bandipora.

An official spokesperson said the visit offered students a first-hand look into the day-to-day workings of law enforcement and aimed to inspire greater civic awareness among youth and sensitize them about the Police role in maintaining civic order.

Accompanied by DySP Headquarters Latief Khan and SHO PS Bandipora Iftikhar Ahmad, the students were taken through various facets of police functioning—from crime prevention and investigation to community engagement and administrative responsibilities.

A special highlight of the programme was a role-playing activity in which one student was designated as the Station House Officer (SHO) for the day.  Other students were assigned different operational roles, giving them a chance to actively participate and understand the responsibilities associated with policing.

The students were also introduced to practical aspects of law enforcement such as traffic management and market regulation. Under supervision, they learned how traffic flow is managed, how road safety is enforced, and how public order is maintained in busy market areas.

A guided tour inside the police station gave the students an in-depth view of internal processes, including record keeping, the structure and function of the lock-up, and the basics of criminal investigation.

SSP Bandipora Harmeet Singh Mehta, commenting on the initiative, said the event was organized to bridge the gap between the police and the public, and to encourage young people to understand and possibly pursue careers in law enforcement. “By offering students a chance to witness police work up close, we hope to build lasting trust and understanding between the police and the community,” he said.

The students expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the experience had not only educated them but also changed their perception of the police force. Encouraged by the positive response, Bandipora Police plans to continue such community outreach programmes in the future, aimed at creating informed, aware, and responsible citizens.
