Rajouri, April 11: In a continued effort to support marginalized communities and enhance their quality of life, the Indian Army on Friday distributed sleeping bags to residents of the remote Songri area in Gunda, Rajouri.

The initiative specifically targeted the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities, known for their nomadic lifestyle and vulnerability during harsh winters.

The outreach is part of the Army’s broader mission to promote community welfare, sustainability, and social empowerment, especially in border and high-altitude regions.

Officials said the distribution drive aims to not only provide physical comfort and safety to these nomadic groups but also strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the local populace. “This initiative ensures warmth, dignity, and support to those residing in some of the most challenging terrains,” said an Army spokesperson.

By addressing basic needs and improving living conditions, the Army hopes to deter vulnerable communities from falling prey to radicalization or extremist influence, reinforcing its holistic approach to national service.

The initiative has been widely appreciated by the local residents, who expressed gratitude for the Army’s continued assistance and presence in their lives beyond conventional security duties.
