Rajouri, April 5: The Indian Army organised an awareness lecture on road safety at Samote in Rajouri district on Saturday, aiming to educate local youth about the importance of traffic rules and safe driving practices.

The event, attended by around 20 locals, was part of the Army’s efforts to strengthen its connect with the Awam and promote community welfare. The session focused on the dangers of reckless driving, overloading, riding without helmets, and ignoring traffic rules—common causes of road accidents and fatalities.

Participants were sensitised about essential safety measures, including wearing helmets and seat belts, avoiding mobile phone use while driving, and adhering to speed limits. Real-life examples and interactive discussions made the session engaging and informative.

“The initiative was well-received, with the youth actively participating and expressing interest in more such awareness programmes,” said Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, who led the effort.

The programme reinforced the critical role of individual responsibility in road safety and highlighted the Army’s continued commitment to the well-being of border communities.
