Bandipora, March 23: A pall of gloom descended on Chitteybandy village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district as residents gathered to bid a tearful farewell to 35-year-old policeman Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning.

According to doctors at District Hospital Bandipora, Aijaz suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while on duty and was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival, leaving his family, friends, and colleagues in shock.

Aijaz, who joined the J&K Police Department as a constable in 2008, was currently deputed as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) to PDP leader Abdullah Wani of Nadihal, Bandipora. He was known for his kindness, intelligence, and humility, earning deep respect and love from those around him.

His friend, Mudasir Ahmad, said that just a day before his tragic passing, they had planned a visit to a local shrine together. “It’s heartbreaking to lose him like this. He was a man of great faith and character,” Mudasir said, recalling their last conversation.

As the news spread, hundreds of mourners gathered at his home, with relatives, friends, and neighbours attending his funeral prayers. Women wept, and children cried as the village mourned a man described as the best among them.

His untimely demise has once again raised concerns about the rising cases of sudden cardiac arrests among young people in Kashmir, leaving many worried about the growing trend of heart-related deaths.

His other friend said that Aijaz was not just a dedicated policeman but also a pious soul, always willing to help those in need.

He was known for his kind heart and generosity, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and goodwill, he added.
