Srinagar, March 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has extended its gratitude to Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra for her humanitarian intervention in ensuring the swift repatriation of a Kashmiri shawl seller’s mortal remains.
The deceased, a resident of Srinagar, had tragically passed away due to a heart attack in Kharagpur, West Bengal, leaving his family in distress.
According to the association, the grieving family was facing difficulties in transporting the deceased’s body back to Srinagar for the last rites. A local individual was reportedly obstructing the process, adding to the anguish of the deceased’s daughters and relatives who were desperate to bring him home.
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the association reached out to MP Mahua Moitra, seeking her immediate assistance. National Convenor Nasir Khuehami personally appealed to Moitra, who then contacted her party colleague, Kharagpur MP June Maliah, to intervene. Both leaders swiftly coordinated with local authorities, ensuring that the required clearances were expedited.
Association National Spokesperson Farhat Riyaz stated that Moitra informed them about the obstruction caused by a local individual, which was delaying the process. However, her firm intervention, along with June Maliah’s efforts, led to a prompt resolution of the issue.
Following the completion of medical and legal formalities, the deceased’s body was transported from Kharagpur to Kolkata Airport on Friday evening, accompanied by his relatives. From there, he was flown to Delhi and subsequently to Srinagar, where he was laid to rest at his ancestral home.
The J&K Students Association lauded the efforts of the TMC MPs, acknowledging their compassion and quick response in facilitating the repatriation. “We deeply appreciate the prompt action taken by Mahua Moitra Ji and June Maliah Ji. Their intervention brought immense relief to the bereaved family,” said Khuehami.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to assisting Kashmiris, including students and workers, in any future emergencies, while expressing hope for continued collaboration and goodwill between different sections of society.
