Project SAMPARK: BRO Conducts Inaugural Blast of Bhimber Gali Tunnel on NH 144A

Jammu, March 03: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) achieved a major milestone on Monday with the inaugural blast for the 1.1 km Bhimber Gali Tunnel on National Highway 144A.

The tunnel is a key component of the 16.1 km-long road project connecting Kalali (Rajouri) to Bhataduria (Poonch) and will serve as an alternate route for military and civilian movement across the difficult terrain.

Defence Spokesperson in Jammu said the inaugural blast was conducted by Brig Neeraj Madan, Chief Engineer, Project SAMPARK, along with Mr. A.M. Prasad, Regional Officer, MoRTH, Jammu. The event was attended by senior civil administration officials, highlighting the collaborative effort between the BRO and district authorities. A puja ceremony was held at the tunnel site before the blast.

Spokesperson said this project is poised to enhance connectivity in the region by significantly reducing the length of the highway by 10.8 km, facilitating smoother and more efficient transportation between strategic locations.

He said the Bhimber Gali Tunnel is a continuation of Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) relentless efforts to enhance regional infrastructure development.

Building on the momentum of the Naushera Tunnel breakthrough (700 meters) in January last year, the BRO continues its rapid progress in enhancing infrastructure across the challenging terrain of the Rajouri and Poonch district, defence spokesperson added.

During his address, Brig Neeraj Madan, Chief Engineer, Project Sampark, reaffirmed BRO’s commitment to spearheading crucial road projects aimed at enhancing connectivity in remote areas and strengthening defence infrastructure in forward areas.

He said the ongoing developments underscore the organisation’s dedication to national security and regional development.

The Bhimber Gali Tunnel once completed will not only facilitate civilian and military movement but also contribute significantly to economic growth and regional accessibility.
