Kashmir’s Travel and Tourism Associations Advocate for Alcohol Ban

Srinagar, Feb : The joint travel and tourism bodies of Kashmir reaffirm their full support for the proposed complete ban on alcohol in the region. This measure aligns with Kashmir’s cultural, social, and religious values and will help create a healthier and more respectful environment for both residents and visitors. As Kashmir is promoted as a family-oriented tourism destination, we believe there should be a complete ban on alcohol in the region, similar to the alcohol ban in Gujarat.

While recent statements and social media posts from certain political figures appear to be driven by personal or political agendas, we want to emphasize that our stance is entirely apolitical. Our position is driven solely by a commitment to the well-being of Kashmir’s tourism industry and the broader society.

We recognize that the decision to introduce or pass a bill banning alcohol is an administrative matter, and we respect the due legislative process. However, our collective position remains clear—a ban on alcohol is rooted in our social, ethical, and religious beliefs.

As always, we remain committed to protecting the interests of our members and ensuring that their voices are heard at all relevant levels. Our focus is on promoting responsible tourism that upholds the cultural values and social norms of Jammu & Kashmir.

The tourism stakeholders strongly refute the baseless and misleading allegations made by certain individuals regarding our support for the availability of liquor in Jammu & Kashmir. These claims are entirely false and appear to be an attempt to malign the reputation of tourism stakeholders. We, as tourism stakeholders, have always upheld the cultural and social ethos of Jammu & Kashmir. We firmly oppose any actions that go against the values and traditions of our society. The claim that we support liquor availability is completely unfounded and contradicts our principles.

We stand committed to ethical tourism and believe in promoting tourism that aligns with the rich heritage and moral fabric of Kashmir. Our efforts have always been directed toward responsible tourism that respects local sentiments and traditions, not otherwise. We, the stakeholders, remain dedicated to the promotion of ethical and responsible tourism in Jammu & Kashmir and will not tolerate any attempts to tarnish our image with false propaganda.
