Hajin, Feb 13: Senior socio-political activist Sheikh Qawam Uddin Shilvatee has expressed serious concerns over cracks in the Jhelum Bund at Hajin Sonawari, warning of potential risks to residents and shopkeepers.
Criticizing the government’s ₹28 crore embankment restoration project, Qawam Uddin argued that awarding the entire contract through a single tender process would overburden contractors and hinder timely completion.
Instead, he advocated for phase-wise tendering, ensuring efficient execution and enhanced safety for the bund and surrounding roads.
He cautioned that inaction could lead to severe erosion, posing a significant threat to lives, businesses, and infrastructure in Hajin town. Urging authorities to act swiftly, he emphasized the urgent need for structural reinforcements to prevent future disasters.
