Srinagar, Feb 13: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers’ Forum (JKGLTF), led by Provincial President Anver H. Wani and Neeraj Sharma on Thursday called on Minister for Education Sakina Itoo and Minister for Science and Technology Satish Sharma.
General Secretary of the Forum Zahoor Ahmad Lone said the delegation called on the minister at the Civil Secretariat to discuss pressing concerns of general line teachers across the Union Territory.
He said during the meeting with Education Minister Sakina Itoo, the delegation presented a charter of demands related to teachers’ career progression and administrative issues. “The minister assured full support and promised to work towards resolving the issues”.
He said the key demands included expedition of promotions for teachers to Masters and Lecturers to curb stagnation, restoration of the Divisional Cadre for the Master Grade post and addressing loopholes in the transfer policy and Annual Transfer Drive (ATD), Rationalization of teaching posts based on CTR (Classroom Teacher Ratio) instead of PTR (Pupil Teacher Ratio) to ensure every school has adequate staff, Creation of sufficient Lecturer posts in subjects previously uncovered, Revocation of Order No. 469 of 2014, Resolution of pay anomalies from 2009 and increment issues from 2019, Establishment of a Teachers’ Welfare Fund, Granting Gazetted Status to trained Postgraduate (PG) teachers and above.
Later, the delegation met Minister Satish Sharma and discussed concerns related to science education, sports infrastructure, and nutrition in schools.
Lone said the delegation raised issues regarding Establishment of Science Labs in schools, Organizing Science Exposure Camps to promote scientific learning, Improvements in sports infrastructure to enhance student participation, Ensuring good quality food grains for the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme and raising GLT-specific issues in the cabinet and extending necessary support.
Spokesperson said the ministers gave patient hearing to the delegation and assured the issues will be looked into.
The meetings saw participation from scores of teachers across Jammu and Kashmir, who expressed optimism that their concerns would be addressed at the policy level.
