Bandipora, Feb 10: The residents of Sikandar Village in Tulail Valley, Gurez, continue to face severe hardships as the Niru-Sikandar road remains inaccessible due to heavy snowfall
Locals told Doordarshan News that Despite repeated pleas, authorities have failed to clear the seven-kilometre stretch, exacerbating the difficulties faced by locals. They said several internal roads have been cleared but this road has been left out leading to several difficulties.
According to Mohammad Munawar, a resident, only half a kilometre of the road has been cleared so far. “Our situation is dire—pregnant women, elderly people, and sick individuals are forced to walk through deep snow for hours. Just recently, a group of women who started their journey in the morning reached Niru only by evening, struggling through treacherous conditions,” he said.
The residents have urged the District Administration Bandipora, particularly DC Bandipora, to take immediate action and ensure snow clearance for restoring road connectivity. They warn that further delays could lead to medical emergencies and supply shortages, leaving the village in crisis.
