Bandipora, 08 Feb: Bandipora, a district known for its rich heritage of “Alim (knowledge) , Adab (manners) and Aab (water)”, is often filled with the sound of rustling pages and the scent of ink. But for Faiza Mehraj, the actions of her pen have a special resonance. Her journey from the world of numbers to the art of calligraphy is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
Her artistic journey began in 2019, when the world was grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns became the norm. Seeking solace and a creative outlet, she turned to calligraphy, an art form that captivated her with its intricate beauty.
“I was truly fascinated by the Holy Quran. My fingers traced the elegant curves of the Arabic letters and got mesmerized by their meticulous execution. A silent yearning stirred within me to replicate this artistry, to capture the same graceful beauty with my own hand,” Faiza Said.
Having an academic journey with a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Kashmir University (KU), a subject that demanded logic and precision but deep within her, a different kind of creative spark was waiting to be ignited. And by the time of COVID-19 lockdowns across the Nation, she got a chance to chisel out her inner artist.
The intricate beauty of calligraphy, with its delicate strokes and elegant flourishes, captivated her. She delved into the world of online learning, immersing herself in the art form. Her passion blossomed, and she sought further guidance by enrolling herself for a Diploma in Calligraphy Course in Srinagar just after completing her Master’s degree in Mathematics. However, at the end of the same year Faiza was able to write the entire Quran by her own hand in just four months.
Her journey, however, is not merely about technical skill. It’s about finding a deeper connection with her faith. She discovered a profound peace in writing the Quran in calligraphy. Each verse, carefully crafted with her pen, brought her closer to her faith, offering a sense of tranquility and fulfillment.
“The intricate art of calligraphy became a meditation for me, a way to express my devotion and solace in the rhythmic flow of the words,” She said.
The verses she writes are not just words on paper; they are prayers etched in ink, a demonstration of her faith and a source of inspiration for others. Her calligraphy reflects a delicate balance of precision and artistry, a testament to her dedication and her love for the art form.
Today, she stands as a beacon of inspiration, an attestation to the transformative power of art. Her journey depicts that passion can blossom even in the most unexpected circumstances and speaks of the beauty of finding peace in the pursuit of art. Her journey from numbers to letters, from logic to art, is an indication of the enduring power of the human spirit to find beauty and meaning in the most unexpected places.
