19 Under Trial Prisoners Recommended for Release in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 22: The first Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) held in Bandipora on Wednesday recommended release of 19 under trial prisoners in the district.

An official statement released by the District Information Centre Bandipora stated that the committee reviewed cases of eligible UTPs/Prisoners shortlisted by the Secretary, DLSA Bandipora for consideration, and the committee recommended 19 Prisoners for release.

As per the UTRC Quarterly meetings schedule issued by National Legal Services Authority for the year 2025, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority conducted 1st Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting in District Bandipora.

The meeting aimed to expedite the identification and review of prisoners who are eligible to be considered for release, as well as to accelerate the regular functioning of UTRC and review all eligible under-trial prisoners (UTPs)/Prisoners.

The UTRC meeting was held in compliance with the directions of Justice B.R. Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India (Executive Chairman, NALSA) and was chaired by Pr. District & Sessions Judge (Chairman DLSA), Bandipora, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary with the members of the UnderTrial Review Committee (UTRC).

The meeting was attended by Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, District Magistrate, Bandipora; Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, Secretary DLSA/CJM Bandipora; Harmeet Singh Mehta, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora; Abdul Majeed, Chief Prosecuting Officer, Bandipora; Ahmad Shaafi, Dy. S.P DAR, (Nodal Officer, Subsidiary Jail, Bandipora and Wani Nawaz-ul-Haq, Assistant LADC Bandipora.
