Jammu, Jan 20: Hima Kaul Kalanidhi organized a poignant theatrical performance to mark the 35th anniversary of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus. The performance was based on ’19 January ke Baad,’ a widely acclaimed short story by renowned author Kshama Kaul.

The story chronicles the harrowing experiences of Ramesh Marhatta, a celebrated news broadcaster who survived abduction and torture at the hands of militants during the tumultuous 1990s in the Kashmir Valley. It delves into the subversive ecosystem that thrived during that period, highlighting the survivor’s courageous struggle and ultimate escape from captivity.

The theatrical rendition was brought to life by an impressive cast led by noted actor Sunil Soni, supported by eminent state artists Soham Kashyap and Nazuk Bhagat. The production was skillfully directed by Bhasha Sumbli, a respected theatre and film actress.

A key highlight of the evening was the felicitation of Ramesh Marhatta, the real-life hero of the story, by the author Kshama Kaul. The audience, comprising writers, artists, and intellectuals, gave a standing ovation to honor his resilience.

The event was anchored by Sahil Bazaz, with music coordinated by Sahoul Dutt, ensuring an immersive and emotive experience for attendees.

This performance served as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the Kashmiri Pandit community and the enduring impact of their stories on India’s cultural and historical landscape.
