Pampore, January 9, 2025: The Wildlife Department, along with casual laborers from Range Khrew, successfully captured a black bear alive in Wuyan village of Pampore, South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, on Thursday.
According to wildlife officials, the bear was trapped in a cage set up in the area following increased surveillance. The animal had caused panic among the local population, prompting swift action by the department.
Officials told Kashmir Convener that the bear had been sighted in the village over the past few days. In response, the department intensified monitoring and installed traps to ensure public safety. A dedicated team, including experts and casual laborers, worked tirelessly to address the situation.
Over the past three months, the Wildlife Department’s Range Khrew has successfully rescued eight black bears and two cubs from various villages in Pampore, showcasing their commitment to mitigating human-wildlife conflict.
The capture of the bear brought a sense of relief to the local residents. The animal was later released into its natural habitat, ensuring its safety and reducing the risk of further incidents.
Meanwhile, the Wildlife Department of Range Khrew launched another search operation on Thursday following reports from locals about a leopard sighting in Wuyan village, Pampore.
According to officials, the leopard was spotted in Naaz Colony, Wuyan. Upon receiving the information, a rescue team equipped with tranquillizer guns promptly arrived at the scene.
A trap has been set up in the village to capture the leopard, and the situation is being closely monitored by the team. Wildlife officials expressed optimism that the leopard would be safely captured soon.
The presence of the leopard has caused panic among the local residents, who are anxiously awaiting its capture to ensure their safety.
