Bandipora, 24 Nov: The increasing number of drug overdose deaths in Kashmir has raised concerns, according to Mushtaq Ahmad Tantrey, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) District President of Bandipora.
In a statement on Sunday, Tantrey highlighted that deaths due to drug overdose have become a regular occurrence in the region. He stressed the need for round-the-clock facilities to address drug disorders in the valley.
Tantrey pointed out that many individuals involved in substance abuse were either entering drug addiction centers or hospitals. He expressed concern that the issue has affected the younger population, impacting their careers and future prospects.
While acknowledging the efforts of the government and police in tackling the issue, Tantrey emphasized the importance of additional measures to protect the youth from falling into drug addiction. He suggested that engaging young people in sports and other constructive activities could help prevent drug abuse.
Tantrey also addressed the rising unemployment rate and called for the creation of more job opportunities to help young people secure sustainable livelihoods.
