Indian Army Concludes ‘Sanyukt Vimochan 2024’ Disaster Relief Exercise

Ahmedabad, November 19, 2024 – The Indian Army concluded its successful Multilateral Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, ‘Sanyukt Vimochan 2024’, on Tuesday, at Ahmedabad and Porbandar, Gujarat.

The exercise, showcasing India’s disaster response capabilities, was attended by General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, who commended the efforts of all agencies involved.

Conducted by the Konark Corps of Southern Command, the two-day exercise simulated a disaster response to a cyclone scenario in Gujarat’s coastal region.

In alignment with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the exercise featured an Industrial Display, where Indian defence industries showcased their innovations in disaster response technology, highlighting the country’s self-reliance in the sector.

On the occasion General Dwivedi praised the professionalism of the exercise, stating, “The Indian Armed Forces have played a pivotal role in disaster relief operations, from search and rescue missions to the provision of humanitarian aid and medical support.”

He also commended the participation of Indian industries for showcasing indigenous HADR equipment, which reflects the government’s vision for a self-reliant India.

The exercise was attended by 15 senior officials and representatives from nine foreign countries, including those from the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Indian Ocean Region, and Southeast Asia. Their participation underscored the importance of global collaboration in disaster management and provided a platform for the exchange of best practices.

General Dwivedi concluded by emphasizing India’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts, referencing the country’s leadership role in providing vital assistance to nations and peoples in crisis. “This exercise represents a significant step in strengthening India’s preparedness and response capabilities, further solidifying its leadership in disaster management on the global stage,” he said.
