Bandipora, November 13: Candlelight protests were held across Bandipora district, including Aragam, Shahgund and Sumbal areas of Bandipora district on Wednesday evening to protest the tragic death of a woman from Naidkhai.
The woman, a mother of three, had been injured in a grenade attack at the Sunday Market in Srinagar and succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.
Scores of protesters, primarily young people, gathered and held a solemn candlelight vigil to protest civilian killings. They lit candles to honor the memory of the woman, who lost her life after a week-long battle with her injuries.
The protesters expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the violence, condemning the targeting of civilians. “These killings must not go unpunished,” one of them stated.
While speaking to the media, Jahangir Ahmad Dar, a protester at Sumbal, said, “We were expecting a better situation in the Kashmir Valley after the newly elected NC government took office. Unfortunately, incidents of militant attacks have increased since the civilian government came to power. The LG rule was better than this, and we want the LG’s rule reinstated here,” he added.
