Indian Army Hosts “The Pir Panjal Wrestling League” at Reasi

Reasi, Oct 29: The Indian Army on Tuesday hosted the Pir Panjal Wrestling League at Sungri Stadium of Reasi district with an aim to promote sports and unity among local communities.

An official spokesperson said the event witnessed the strength, skill and spirit of talented wrestlers including from Jammu & Kashmir Police with overwhelming participation from Rajouri, Reasi, Doda, Jammu & Samba Districts.

A total of 92 players attended the event. Five distinct weight categories encouraged inclusivity, showcasing talent from seasoned athletes to promising young wrestlers. “A total of 367 spectators including VDC members, sarpanch, police staff & ESM were present there to boost up the morale of the players”.

Spokesperson said the league attracted hundreds of spectators, fostering regional pride in traditional sports.

He said the Indian Army ensured smooth conduct, safety, and fairness, with trained officials overseeing each match. Community leaders and locals applauded the athletes’ energy and enthusiasm.

“The Pir Panjal Wrestling League strengthened community bonds, demonstrating the Indian Army’s commitment to nurturing sports, teamwork, and resilience. We extend heartfelt gratitude to participants, spectators, and supporters who made this event a resounding success, paving the way for future initiatives empowering local youth,” reads the statement issued by Defence Spokesperson.
