The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today approved the proposal of the Department of Rural Development for “Implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV (PMGSY-IV) during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29”. The financial assistance is to be provided for the construction of 62,500 Kms road for providing new connectivity to eligible 25,000 unconnected habitations and construction/upgradation of bridges on the new connectivity roads. Total outlay of this scheme will be Rs. 70,125 crore. The Cabinet’s decision is a promising step towards enhancing connectivity and transforming rural India. The importance of infrastructure development in rural areas cannot be overstated. By connecting unlinked habitations, particularly those in remote regions, PMGSY-IV has the potential to significantly improve access to essential services like education, healthcare, and markets. This will not only uplift the socio-economic conditions of the residents but also spur economic growth by facilitating better market access for farmers and local businesses. In regions marked by isolation, such as tribal areas, the Northeast, and LWE-affected districts, this connectivity is crucial for integrating these communities into the broader national economy. A noteworthy aspect of PMGSY-IV is its incorporation of international standards and environmentally friendly technologies. The emphasis on using Cold Mix Technology, Waste Plastic, and other sustainable materials reflects the government’s forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development. This focus on eco-friendly road construction practices is commendable as it not only ensures the longevity of roads but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable development. The integration of the PM Gati Shakti portal for road alignment planning ensures that this scheme is both efficient and data-driven. By leveraging technology for planning and execution, the government aims to minimize delays and cost overruns, ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach the target areas promptly. PMGSY-IV is not just about building roads; it is about building bridges to opportunity, development, and inclusivity for India’s rural population. By prioritizing connectivity, the scheme has the potential to catalyze a significant socio-economic transformation in the country’s most underserved areas. This initiative is a crucial step towards fulfilling the government’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” ensuring that no part of India is left behind in its development journey.
