GHS Sumbal Hosts Electoral Awareness for Non-Literates under ULLAS Program

Bandipora, 07 Sep: In an effort to promote literacy and electoral awareness, a certificate distribution ceremony for the Foundational Learning and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) was held today at the Girls High School, Sumbal.

The event aimed to recognize the efforts of non-literate individuals who participated in the March 2024 FLNAT, successfully transitioning them into neo-literates.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Bandipora, Kishore Kumar, who personally handed over certificates to the newly literate participants. Accompanying him were several dignitaries, including the Cluster Head, Principal BHSS Nowgam and ZEO Sumbal Dr. Khurshied, District Nodal Officer ULLAS, Mir Irfan Maqbool, and ZNO ULLAS Sumbal, Shabir Ahmad Bhat.

Headmaster Girls High School Sumbal, Yaseen Qadri, welcomed the guests with an introductory address. CEO Kishore Kumar emphasized the role of the ULLAS scheme and FLNAT in shaping the educational future of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the importance of these initiatives in empowering individuals with the foundational knowledge necessary for personal and community development.

District Nodal Officer ULLAS, Mir Irfan Maqbool, delivered an insightful lecture on the ULLAS scheme, elaborating on its significance at both the regional and national levels. He stressed the role of ULLAS in providing basic education for all and the importance of vote in democratic setup.

To further encourage literacy and increase enrollment in the ULLAS program, educational materials including copies and pencils were distributed to newly identified non-literate individuals. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to inspire more people in the district to take their first steps towards education.

Additionally, resources such as primers and banners were distributed to the Samajik Chetna Kendras to support the establishment of more community education centers. This initiative is expected to enhance the district’s efforts in promoting community-based learning and educational empowerment.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Principal and ZEO Sumbal who expressed gratitude to all present for their contributions in making the event a success.
