Bandipora, August 18: Thousands of people from across the Kashmir Valley converged at Bandipora on Sunday to bid farewell to prominent Islamic preacher and founder of Tablighi Jamaat in Bandipora, Noor-Ul-Hassan Qazi who died in a road accident in Bandipora on Sunday Morning.
Qazi was injured in a road accident in Bandipora on Friday evening while he was riding a bike. He was immediately shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura where he battled for life for about 36 hours. He breathed his last on Sunday morning. He was 80 and survived by Wife, a son and two daughters. Qazi who retired from JK SRTC several years ago had dedicated his life to propagation of Islam and has served as Ameer Tableeg e Jamat for many decades.
As the news of his death spread, Thousands of people from across the valley reached his ancestral village in Onagam Bandipora to participate in the funeral prayers including prominent Islamic Scholars and people from all walks of life. Ameer Tablighi Jamaat Jammu and Kashmir Mr Parvaiz Ahmad Khan (Aka Ameer Ahmad Khan Sahib) led the funeral prayers while Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi, Mufti Ayoub, Mufti Ishaq Nazki and other scholars also attended the funeral prayer. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Onagam next to the graves of his ancestors.
Qazi was among the founding members of the Tablighi Jamaat in Bandipora district and since his early years of his youth had dedicated his life to propagation of Islam. The people who turned up at the funeral said there is rarely a mosque in Bandipora where Noor Sahib has not visited. “He has travelled every habitation of Bandipora district including remote Villages of Tulail, Gurez, Bandipora and Sumbal Sub Division in scorching heat and shivering cold,” said a mourner. His relentless work in reforming society has left an indelible mark, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations, he added.
Locals recalled Noor Sahib as a “Silent Hero” who fully dedicated his life to reforming society. “From dawn to dusk he was meeting people, especially youngsters motivating them to shun bad habits and preach them basic teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW),” another mourner said.
In a hall of mourners a well-dressed man from Srinagar told the fellow mourners in a choked voice that he would have ruined his life as a drunkard until Noor Sahib met him while he was in his local masjid for 40 days in the chilling cold of early 90’s. “He kept meeting me and literally begged before me to accompany him to the masjid. Finally after a dozen meetings, my heart melted and I entered the masjid and that changed my life once for all. I shun drinking and other bad habits,” he recalled.
