Polling in all 03 Assembly Segments viz. 14-Sonawari, 15-Bandipora and 16-Gurez concludes successfully in a peaceful manner

Cumulative poll percentage of the district almost doubles to 60.68 from just around 31% in GELS-2019

Bandipora; 20th May-2024: Polling of General Election to Lok Sabha 2024 in Bandipora District, which is a part of 01-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, was today conducted successfully and peacefully across all the 312 polling stations in the three Assembly Segments viz. 14-Sonawari, 15-Bandipora, and 16-Gurez of the district.

The voter turnout for each Assembly Segment, as of 1800 hours, tentatively, is as follows:

– 14-Sonawari: 64.73%

– 15-Bandipora: 60.24%

– 16-Gurez: 40.82%

This brings the cumulative voting percentage for the district to an impressive 60.68% (tentative figures), nearly doubling the turnout from the 2019 General Elections, which stood at approximately 31%.

District Election Officer, Bandipora, Shakeel ul Rehman, emphasised that the remarkable increase in voter participation is a testament to the series of dedicated efforts under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative and improvement in overall security scenario in the district. Through relentless awareness campaigns, community engagement, and voter education programs, the district administration has successfully galvanized the public to exercise their democratic rights enthusiastically. He further underscored that it was, ultimately, the voters of the district who decided to come out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right. The voters included all categories viz first timers, young, PwDs, 85+, women etc. The District Election Officer extended heartfelt gratitude to all of them for their overwhelming response and commitment to the electoral process. Their active participation is a powerful demonstration of democratic engagement and a significant step towards strengthening our democracy, he added, and also commended the efforts of all AROs, Election Nodal Officers, election officials, and every other single person associated with the election process, whose dedication and hard work ensured a smooth and peaceful election process. Their unwavering commitment has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. He also commended the efforts of Army, CAPF, Police and other security agencies for their tireless efforts in creating a peaceful and enabling environment, which has been a dominant factor in ensuring peaceful conduct of the entire election process in the district.
