Airtel, IntelliSmart Join Forces for 20 Million Smart Meters

Srinagar, Dec 27: Bharti Airtel ("Airtel"), a leading telecommunications service provider in India, has announced a strategic partnership with IntelliSmart Infrastructure Private Limited to enhance up to 20 million smart meters.

As per official statement, this collaboration signifies Airtel's entry into smart metering applications, encompassing the Head End System, Cloud, and Analytics. Regarded as one of the most substantial deals in the country's smart metering landscape, this venture will significantly contribute to Airtel's expanding IoT deployment across various sectors.

Airtel's comprehensive IoT solution includes the proprietary "Airtel IoT Hub," enabling utilities to monitor and manage smart meters efficiently with advanced analytics. Hosted on Airtel's secure cloud network, the IoT Hub facilitates the seamless connection and management of billions of devices and applications.

Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, CEO of Airtel Business (India), commented on the collaboration, stating, "We have strengthened our market leadership as the largest IoT enabler in the country. This deal positions us strategically to play a key role in realizing the Government of India's vision to digitize 250 million conventional meters into smart meters."

The Government of India aims to replace 250 million conventional meters with smart meters over the next five years through the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiative. Airtel IoT seeks to play a pivotal role in supporting this government vision, aligning with the broader goal of digitizing the power sector and introducing consumer-friendly measures. Smart meters are expected to become commonplace as the power sector undergoes digital transformation, driven by the government's push for transparency and consumer-friendly advancements.
