Bandipora, Nov 08: The Competent Authority and Administrator of SAFEM (Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985) in New Delhi have issued a confirmation order to Bandipora police for the freezing of seven bank accounts linked to Khursheed Ahmad Waza, a narcotics smuggler, and his family.
An official said that the order, received today, mandates the freezing of these accounts, which collectively hold savings amounting to Rs 9,60,759. Khursheed Ahmad Waza, identified as the son of Gh Ahmad Waza and a resident of Bagh Bandipora, and his family are the owners of these accounts.
"This action by the Competent Authority comes as part of the ongoing crackdown on people involved in narcotics smuggling. The freezing of these bank accounts is a critical step in combating illegal drug trade and preventing the circulation of illicit funds," he said.
Recently a Bank account, registered in the name of narcotics smuggler, Aamir Rashid Sheikh, the son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh a resident of Shilvat Sumbal, was found to contain savings amounting to Rs 1,70,807 being generated from illegal drug trade.
An official had said that the action was taken under Section 68F(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as confirmed by the Competent Authority & Administrator, SAFEM (New Delhi), he said.
He further said that this measure is a part of the ongoing War On Drugs campaign initiated by the Bandipora police to curb the illegal drug trade. "The freezing of the account is a strategic move to stem the financial resources of drug smugglers and to disrupt their illicit operations," he added.
The police, he said, have intensified their efforts to crackdown on drug-related crimes and have been vigilant in tracking and seizing the financial assets of people involved in such illegal activities. "This step is part of a broader strategy to weaken the financial foundations of the narcotics trade and to deter those engaged in drug smuggling and distribution," the officer added.
He also said that the Bandipora police have maintained an unyielding stance against drug-related offences, determined to eradicate the drug menace from the district.
"The people need to actively engage in unveiling the prevalence of the drug menace in Bandipora, collaborating with the local police force in this critical battle. Through this unified effort, the district can effectively combat and eliminate drug abuse.
Furthermore, spreading awareness in every village is vital, and senior citizens and Mosque Imams play an integral role in educating against the perils of drug abuse,"stated the official.
