Bandipora: Amid rising concerns of drug abuse among Kashmir's youth, a gym centre located in the Papchan area of Bandipora district has been playing a pivotal role in nurturing promising athletes.
Aesthetic-ERA stands as the first-ever gym center in the district, conveniently situated near the Petrol Pump in Nadihal, Bandipora.
Peerzada Aqeel, a 26-year-old civil engineering student, discovered the gym and decided to pursue a career in fitness alongside his engineering education. He honed his fitness skills by earning degrees from the 'Gold's Gym Fitness Institute' in Noida, New Delhi.
This state-of-the-art gym is well-equipped with the latest machinery, including abb strength, sit board double station, air walker-air stroller, chest press outdoor equipment, plain bench, flex nest, treadmill, late pulling down, plates, dumbbells, and exercise balls for comprehensive workouts targeting various muscle groups.
Aqeel has an impressive list of degrees and diplomas in health and fitness and has actively participated in sports and other activities in both Srinagar and Delhi.
"Currently, we have approximately 800 members, encompassing all age groups, but around 300 individuals are actively engaging in gym activities. It brings me immense satisfaction to witness the youth's enthusiasm for fitness," Aqeel remarked.
When it comes to individuals who may have been affected by conflict or drug-related issues, Aqeel's recommendation usually involves consulting with doctors. He believes that engaging in fitness activities not only helps in staying physically fit but also serves as a valuable deterrent against drug use and other detrimental habits.
"In my brief career as a fitness trainer, I've observed many young men finding solace and peace through their participation in the gym centre," he explained. "Devoting a few hours to such activities can effectively alleviate stress and depression, far more effectively than medications."
Basit Hameed, a regular gym-goer, shared that since he began working out, he has experienced increased confidence and improved overall health.
In addition to catering to the younger population, older individuals also frequent the gym to maintain their fitness levels.
Aqeel has extended the gym's offerings by adding a cafeteria, a supply store, kickboxing, and cardio sessions within the gym premises.
"I've also introduced a bodybuilding supplement with zero side effects, making it accessible for anyone interested in joining our gym centre atany time," he mentioned.
