CSIR announces Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes for Science & Technology
12 winners in seven disciplines of S&T
New Delhi, 11th September 2023: Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR Monday announced the winners of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for the year 2022.
According to a statement issued by CSIR the prestigious SSB Prize for the year 2022 has been awarded to twelve leading scientists in the seven disciplines. Two scientists each have been awarded the prize Biological, Chemical, Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences respectively.
In Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean & Planetary Sciences and Medical Sciences, one scientist each has been selected for the award. The winners were announced during the inaugural event of One Week One Lab program, of CSIR-NIScPR, announced by in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Hon'ble Minister of State for Science & Technology and Vice President, CSIR.
.The Recipients of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (SSB) for Science and Technology 2022 include Dr Ashwani Kumar from Molecular Mycobacteriology Laboratory CSIR Institute of Microbial Technology Chandigarh, Dr Maddika Subba Reddy from Laboratory of Cell Death and Cell Survival , Centre for DNA Fingerprinting Diagnostics Hyderabad, Dr Akkattu T Biju, Department of Organic Chemistry , Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru Dr Debabrata Maiti Department of Chemistry Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Mumbai , Dr Vimal Mishra Water and Climate Laboratory Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinaga, Dr Dipti Ranjan Sahoo, Department of Civil Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Dr Rajnish Kumar Department of Chemical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Madras , Chennai , Dr Apoorva Khare Department of Mathematics Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru , Dr Neeraj Kayal Department of Mathematics and Computing Microsoft Research Lab India Bengaluru, Dr Dipyaman Ganguli Translational Research Unit CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Biology Kolkata, Dr Anindya Das Department of Physics Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru and Dr Basudeb Dasgupta Department of Theoretical Physics Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai.
The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science & Technology was instituted in the year 1957. It is named after the founder Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) India, the late Dr (Sir) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar. The Prize is given each year for scientists below the age of 45 years who have made conspicuously important and outstanding contributions to human knowledge and progress through work done primarily in India during the five years preceding the year of the Prize
