Srinagar, Aug 04: The Vajr Division of the Indian Army has launched a thrilling mountaineering expedition to conquer Vajra Top, the highest feature of Chinar Corps, soaring at an awe-inspiring altitude of 18044 Ft.
PRO Defense in Srinagar said the expedition, comprising a team of 15 skilled climbers, is set to embark on this remarkable journey as part of the celebrations for Azadi ka Mahotsava and in honor of the nation's 76th Independence Day.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Vajr Division conveyed his heartfelt best wishes to the enthusiastic team of climbers, encouraging them to keep the spirit of adventure alive and to carry the nation's flag to even greater heights.
As the climbers begin their daring ascent to Vajra Top, the entire nation stands in solidarity, honoring their spirit of adventure and dedication to the country. Their endeavor serves as a reminder of the indomitable will of the people to overcome challenges and achieve great heights, both literally and figuratively.
Spokesperson said the climbers' mission goes beyond the personal triumph of scaling the majestic peak, as they plan to collect rocks and soil from Vajr Top, making a meaningful contribution to the 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' initiative.
“This gesture symbolizes the climbers' deep-rooted love for their country and their commitment to preserving its natural treasures,” he added in the statement.
The flag-off ceremony for the expedition took place against the backdrop of the exuberant two-day festival, Jashn-e-Gurez, which saw an unprecedented surge in tourist footfall.
The festival offered an array of adventure sports, including Para Motor, Kishanganga River Rafting, and Hot Air Ballooning, adding to the excitement and thrill of the occasion.
Gurez, where the expedition commences, is renowned for its exceptional harmony between the Indian Army and the local populace. The seamless synergy among stakeholders was evident throughout the ceremony, underscoring the strong bond between the armed forces and the people they serve.
Spokesperson said the event also served as a prelude to the upcoming inauguration of the 'Shinon Meeras – Shina Cultural Centre- a collaborative effort between the Indian Army, civil administration, and Jammu and Kashmir Tourism. The center aims to safeguard, promote, and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and identity of the Dard-Shina people.
The anticipation for the center's inauguration was palpable among the crowd, reflecting the shared enthusiasm for preserving the region's unique heritage, spokesperson added.
