Srinagar, March 27: The new generation of Kashmir continues to prove their mettle in whatever field they are tested in- be it sports or education.
This time a 9-year-old class-II student from Anantnag bags two gold medals of excellence in International Science Olympiad and International English Olympiad organized by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) held in the academic year 2022-23 bringing laurels to the school and their parents.
Malik Muhammad Sanan, a student of class-II at New Whiz Kids School Larkipora in Doru Shahabad area of Anantnag district won zonal medals of distinction.
Sanan secured 97.74 percentile score in the competition and stood 4that the international rank and 3rd at the state rank.
The other three students belong to Delhi Public School Jammu who also secured gold medals.
Founder Director SOF Mahabir Singh while confirming the achievement of the Kashmiri kid, wished him and his parents best and hoped that he utilizes the energies and time in consonance with their mission and achieve academic success.
He said the foundation's objective is to encourage students to adopt a scientific mentality. “It is a science-based competition for students of grades 1 to 12”.
The International English Olympiad (IEO) is organised under the aegis of the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) and is open to students of Classes 1 to 12.
The Olympiad is conducted at two levels including the level-I test at each participating school during school hours. The test of 60 minutes duration comprises of 35 objective-type questions from a range of subjects including Word and Structure Knowledge, Reading, Spoken and Written Expression and a separate Achievers Section
According to SOF, officials said there are separate question papers for each date of exam and the medium of the test is English. CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.
An official spokesperson said over 5000 schools spread across the country registered for the India’s biggest Olympiad exams and millions of students appeared in the said exams. Sanan competed at level two where 25 top rank holders from each state participated from each class.
While talking to Kashmir Convener, Sanan credited the success to his teachers and parents who, according to him, worked extra hours to prepare him for the said competitive exam.
“My teachers and parents were preparing me for the competition and teachers of my school also worked beyond duty hours so that I pass the exam with flying colors,” he added.
