Bandipora, Dec 31: Scores of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers staged protest and demanded the fulfillment of their long pending demands.
Protesters assembled at Mini Secretariat Bandipora and staged sit-in protest under the banner of JK Anganwadi and Helpers Association.
Protesting workers and helpers demanded increase in honorarium for both workers and helpers in Anganwadi centres.
District President Anganwadi Centres Association, Masooda Begum said, “We have requested the government to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers. The government is providing six hundred rupees to helpers and three hundred rupees to workers though extra honorarium is being provided by the central government”.
The protesters demanded that retirement benefits be given to them "in the form of pension, and a lump sum amount of Rs 3 lakh to anganwadi and Rs 2 lakh to the helper at the time of retirement." She said the government's before opening new anganwadi centers should address the demands of those who are already working in these centers.
She added: “We are demanding maximum honorarium of 9,000 rupees for workers and 13,000 for helpers.”She said that they are paid rupees 600 rupees from the last 15 years. “We are almost 61000 employees and we demand justice from the government,” she said.
The protesters said that besides doing the Anganwadi work, they also perform duties of health department, education department and social welfare department. “But we are never paid for the extra work,” they said.
