Department of Cooperatives organises awareness programme in Sumbal
53 FPOs registered in District, 22 in Sumbal Sub-Division: Dy Registrar
Bandipora, September 26: The Department of Cooperative Societies on Monday organised a day long awareness programme in Sumbal Division.
Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Mohammad Younis Mir was the chief guest on the occasion while other Tehsil Level officers and official were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion Deputy Registrar Cooperatives briefed the general public about various activities carried out by Cooperative Department through Cooperative Societies besides providing essential commodities of daily use on nominal rates at District headquarter to the village level cooperative outlets or the marketing cooperative societies extending marketing support for the local vegetable produce of the farmers and role of various types of cooperative societies in the development of the rural economy.
He also briefed the gathering about the various schemes of Cooperative Department for the development of Cooperative sector and threw light on objectives behind organising such awareness camps so that both society members and consumers get due market avenues through marketing societies and to bring both the society officials and the people on a single platform for better improvement and efficiency of the services rendered by the marketing Cooperative Societies.
On the occasion Registration certificates were distributed among newy registered Food Processing Organisations. It was given out that 53 FPOs have been registered in the district including 22 in Sumbal Sub Division.
He further stressed upon the people to strengthen the cooperative societies through their support for a sustainable source of livelihood for the people and consumers.
Locals expressed gratitude to the Cooperative Department for organising such awareness camps about the importance of cooperative movement for the overall development of the rural population.\
The Deputy Registrar emphasized for bringing vibrancy in the Cooperative movement and widen its scope so that more and more people are covered in its ambit. He also directed officers to devise a suitable plan for reviving the defunct societies and scale up activities for disseminating awareness at grass roots level adding that the Cooperative department has a lot of scope of employment generation.
Meanwhile, members of several Cooperative societies highlighted their issues and grievances and sought intervention of higher authorities for sorting out the issues in a time bound manner.
