Karnah gets its first Walnut Processing Plant

Srinagar: Karnah produces the best of the walnut in the biggest quantity. However till now it lacked any walnut processing plant. A walnut processing plant funded and constructed by Indian Army was inaugurated here at Parada village close to the Line Of Control (LoC). Shakti Vijay Brigade was instrumental in making it a reality. The plant was inaugurated by Brigadier S P Consul, Commander of the Brigade, BDC Chairman Teethwal Nishada Bano, Sarpanches of the villages and villagers.

 

The plant has machines for processing of raw walnuts and packaging the nuts. It will make the job of local farmers easier and assist in value addition as plans are afoot to brand the walnuts. Packaging and branding the walnuts will enble the farmers to fetch better prices for the produce and benefit economically. Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Consul expressed happiness on the establishment of the plant and optimism that it will lead to economic benefits and avenues for self-employment.

 

Villages of Parada, Amrui, Panjtara, Pingla, Pingla Haridal and Bahadarkot Etc will benefit from the small scale venture. Efforts are also being made by Indian Army to establish two to three more such plants in Karnah tehsil so that entire Sub-Division can benefit. On this occassion a few locals who have contributed positively to the society were also feliciated. Local villagers expressed happiness in establishment of the processing plant.
