18th District Baramulla Chess championship concludes

Bandipora, March 12:  The 18th District Baramulla Chess Championship which was organized by District Baramulla Chess Association concluded here at Shahi Hamdan Sports Academy Sopore. 

An official said around 110 Players of all age categories in both Boys and girls  category participated with great enthusiasm in the two-day long Chess Championship. 

 The Championship was organized under the aegis of  Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and  under the direct supervision of All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association.

 In senior  category Auzair Kantroo defeated Junaid Shah and claimed the top position while as Yasir Akbar and Junaid Shah were  declared 2nd and 3rd respectively. 

 In Junior category Mohammad Salman became the champion Shah Azat  and Syed Soliha shared second position jointly and  Rahil Maqbool was declared as 3rd Position holder.

 In Sub Junior category Wajid Gowhar Tak claimed top position Sarim Sajad  got 2nd position and Larib Sajad was claimed 3rd position. 

The Concluding Ceremony was attended by the large number of people and was presided by Mtr. Masrat Kar President Municipality Council Sopore. Twaseef Raina Chairman Municipality Council Baramulla,  Furqan Qadri  Dy. SP Hq Sopore Satinder Singh District Manager Sports Council Baramulla, Mohammad Ashraf Manager Sports Stadium Sopore were others top dignitaries who attended the closing ceremony. 

Speaking on the occasion MC President Sopore Masrat Rasool Kar said it was great to see that good number of youth participated in this chess championship, she said that she wishes that younger generation should not shy away in opting to pursue sports as a career.

MC President said that there is a need to encourage the sporting activities in northern Kashmir as sports helps children get fit, develop skills.

The organizers of the event on the closing ceremony said that the championship was organized to get the attention of the youngster towards and game and make more and more youngsters take part in such events.

The winners were awarded prizes and certificates.
