Kupwara, Mar 10: Authorities suspended a forest guard after recovery of illicit timber in Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.
An order issued by divisional officer, Kamraj forest division, a copy of which lies with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reads, “Consequent upon receipt of reports regarding seizure of about 90 cfts of Kail timber (sawn), outturn of 03 damaged trees, in compartment 79/NL of Doban Beat of Khurhama Block and prima facie active connivance of concerned field staff in the listed-up forest damages, pending departmental enquiry, Mohd Abass Khan, Forest Guard (l/C Beat Guard, Doban Beat) is hereby placed under suspension and attached to Forest Check Post, Kulangam with immediate effect,".
It further states that “Fairoz Ahmad Marazi, Range Officer, North Lolab will conduct an in-depth enquiry in the matter and submit his report after conducting thorough checking of the entire concerned forests within three days positively,”—(KNO)
