Army, Citizens Of Machhal valley celebrate Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti

Kupwara, Feb 19: Indian Army stationed in Machhal Valley near Line of Control alongwith the local populace on Saturday celebrated Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti with great fervor and enthusiasm. 

An official spokesperson said the celebration commenced with a huge procession, followed by installation of Shivaji Maharaj's Bust at the Maratha Ground. "The entire population of Machhal was overjoyed and danced to the tune of Lezim". 

He said the people paid their respect to Chhatrapathi and showered flowers and garlands. "Even in -5 degree Celsius temperature and snow clad Machhal, the zeal of locals was a sight to watch. The people made Shivaji Maharaj Statue with snow and enjoyed the celebrations to the fullest".  

"This proves that Shivaji Maharaj is not only a heroic legend for the people of Maharashtra but also for the rest of India as his military power and guerilla tactics of war are considered of great importance for the Indian history".

Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is celebrated on 19th February every year. It marks the birth anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj, the first Chhatrapti and founder of the Maratha Empire.

 Shivaji Maharaj was known for establishing a progressive civil rule with well structured administration and ministries. Shivaji Maharaj's powerful military forces expanded the Maratha influence. They captured and built forts and formed a strong navy as well.
