Bandipora, Dec 27: The residents of Bandipora on Monday expressed concern over the presence of large number of stray dogs in the town posing threat the to population.
Locals told Kashmir Convener that they face problems to venture out even during day time as dogs rule the streets in the town especially in main market and Plan area.
Residents of Plan Bandipora said that not only the locals are worried about the growing population of stray dogs but also the travelers are facing difficulties as these dogs roam on the streets and cause difficulties for students coming from different areas as there is a Higher Secondary school in the same area besides being a commercial hub.
Shakeel Ahmad, a resident said the locals fear to go to masjid for evening and morning prayers as hundreds of dogs are seen roaming on roads. "We don't even allow our children to go out on the street due to fear of dogs," he added.
Locals said the alarming rise in population of dogs can be gauged from the fact that dogs even block streets at times even disallowing traffic.
They also blamed Municipal Council Bandipora for inaction and alleged that the Municipal Council stock garbage in open location in the town attracting more dogs.
The residents appeal Deputy Commissioner Bandipora and Municipal Council Bandipora to look into the matter at earliest so that people breathe a sigh of relief.
"There are no such arrangements for stray dogs in the town but we will look into the matter in the coming days and find a way out," Chief Executive Officer Bandipora Municipal Council said when contacted by Kashmir Convener.
