Shift Synthetic Atheltic track to Alternate Place: Usman Majid tells LG

Bandipora, December 06: Former MoS Planning and Apni Party Vice President Usman Majid here on Monday urged LG Adminstration to reconsider the decision of constructing synthetic athletic track at Sports Stadium Bandipora.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, Majid urged LG led adminstration to Shift Synthetic Atheltic track from Bandipora Stadium to Alternative Place. He said that, It is totally unfair to convert sports stadium Bandipora into Synthetic atheltic track for athletes, adding that it is our home for cricket and football.

Majid said that , We have seen cricketers & football players flocking to the stadium from all across the UT. This ground undoubtedly has to be one of the famous cricket & football grounds in the entire Valley. " The value, repute, respect, charm, and importance that SK Stadium Bandipora hold in the hearts of the cricket & football fraternity of Kashmir Valley is unprecedented and unmatched".

JKAP Vice President said, the construction of synthetic athletic track in the stadium will not only make the experienced cricketers feel disgruntled but it will also be a reason for the massacre of the aspirations of the budding cricketers & football players.

Former MLA Bandipora said that he is not against the construction of synthetic athletic track. He said that there is a need for athletic track for other games because this would help other sports activities to grow in the nearby areas. But that does not mean that the other major sports including cricket, football and volleyball would be sacrificed.

Majid said that there is a need that this proposal must be reversed or, at least, shifted to an alternate venue because Synthetic atheltic track will affect the most-played games like cricket & football. Youth in particular are up in arms over this initiative.

I think people at the helm should have made ground-level research before finalising this project. This plan will affect the normal activities and the sports which are currently their on high demand, Majid said

This stadium is only standard palyfield in our district and making it an athletic-specialised Stadium would stop the other rest of sports activities, he added. 

He urged LG Administration to reconsider its decision and shift this to alternate place.
