Bandipora-Gurez road reopens for one-way traffic

Bandipora, 10 April: The Bandipora district administration on Saturday opened the Bandipora-Gurez  for one-way traffic after remaining closed for about  five months.

            Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad said the 86-Kilomteres long road was thrown open for one-way traffic to ensure hassle free movement on the road. He said essential commodities are being sent to the Gurez valley on priority.

He said the road was reopened after hectic efforts of the district administration and BRO. It is noteworthy that the snow clearance work by the 56RCC unit of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the road was going on for the last several months.

The road was first closed in November when Kashmir received season’s first snowfall. But later, it was thrown open for one-way traffic for some days only to be closed again for traffic the Gurez valley received heavy snowfall. The Gurez valley remains cut off for about six months owing  to heavy snowfall. The stranded passengers and patients are ferried in special helicopter services when needed.
