NDRF to hold mega mock exercise on flood disaster management in Srinagar on March 28

SRINAGAR, MARCH 26: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Tuesday reviewed the preparations for a mega floods disaster management mock exercise to be held at Nehru Park on March 28.

The mock exercise cum awareness programme is being held by the National Disaster Response Force. Its aim is to evaluate the emergency response plan and standard operating procedures of the Srinagar district administration.

The exercise will also check the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders to enhance the coordination among the emergency support functions of various departments.

Besides Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force, all concerned line departments including Education, Health, PHE, I&FC, UEED, SMC, Traffic, PDD, F&E Serviced, Information, Police, Traffic, Transport and Revenue will take part in the mega mock exercise.

Two hundred Aapda Mitra volunteers of the district who were also present in the meeting will also be a part of the disaster management mock exercise on March 28.

Speaking on the occasion the DC said the district management apparatus of the district needs strengthening and that this exercise will be the first step towards that.

He sought suggestions from concerned agencies as to how the disaster management plan of the district can be improved during the meeting. He assured of taking them up with concerned quarters for genuine efforts at strengthening the disaster management apparatus in the district.

ADC Srinagar KK Sidha, Director Disaster Management, RTO Kashmir, representatives of NDRF, SDRF and Civil Defence, and senior officers from all concerned line departments and Police and Traffic attended the meeting.
