Bandipora, 20 March: People stranded in Gurez and Bandipora due to closure of Gurez-Bandipora road on Wednesday demanded to be airlifted to their respective places  allegeing that the helicopter service has been suspended from past one month.

Stranded passengers urged Governor Jammu and Kashmir to intervene personally and  restore the helicopter service at earliest. The passengers alleged that they were stranded in Gurez from the last one month due to the blocked Bandipora-Gurez Road and despite assurances the administration had failed to airlift them. “We urge government to take steps so that we are airlifted back to Bandipora as people are suffering a lot,” Mohammad Hamza Lone said.

They said from the past one month the administration is giving lame excuses about the  bad weather for suspension of helicopter service but all other Army Helicopters and private helicopters  fly to Gurez valley  but only the Helicopter Service meant for carrying passengers have been suspended for unknown reasons.
They said despite repeated requests to the district administration have fallen to deaf ears and urged the Governor administration to intervene to provide releif to the people.

Hundreds of passengers  including patients and employees are waiting  to be airlifted as they have reguistered themselves before the concerned authorities for the same. Pertinent to mention that Gurez remains cut off from the rest of the Valley for six months from December.
