Mismanagement mars Bandipora Post Office

Bandipora, 15 March: When digital campaign forced even Post Offices to go hi tech across the country, the Post Office in Bandipora is going in reverse direction with slowing the speed of services delivery. One will be surprise to know that a simple speed post mail takes more than a week to reach Srinagar-50 kilometers from Bandipora.

The residents  of Bandipora especially students, employees and business fraternity travel to Srinagar to get their articles mailed through post Office Srinagar as the facility has been virtually shut in the district.

Locals said that it takes 5-7 days for a mere speed post to reach Srinagar through Bandipora Post office and the irony is that when a customer tries to track the booking details of a particular article/speed post there is no information available for the articles booked at Bandipora Post office.

A job aspirant while talking to Kashmir convener said he has booked a speed post containing a Job application form for Ganderbal on 06 March but despite after 07 days the speed post hasn't reached Ganderbal and there are no booking details available against the speed post booked at Bandipora Post office. “While the last date to apply for the post was 09 March and the speed post containing application form at Bandipora post is still missing,” he said adding that he tried to approach the Manager post office Bandipora he provided the lame excuse that Bandipora to Srinagar road was blocked for 3 days and vehicle was stuck on Bandipora to Srinagar road way for three days.

An official of the Post Office who is not authorized to talk to Media , said that the delivery and pick up van comes once a week and hence it takes time to send parcels to Srinagar on time.

The locals also alleged that the posts once reaching the Post office are not delivered on time. They  said the customers have to visit Post Office to collect their material as postman never bothers to deliver articles on time. “ The officials never try to ascertain and locate the address of the customer and instead the officials call customers to receive the parcels from post office itself,” said  Ishfaq Ahmad Wani , a student.

Manzoor Ahmad from Chathybandy said that his job offer letter went missing in post office and was later delivered to him after a month though the waiting period was only 21 days to join duties and hence lost the job opportunity.

Locals said despite repeated complaints on the official pages of the Post Office and at the Managers office, the system has not improved the delivery system and appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter.
