Panchayat Polls: PDP claims victory in Bandipora

 

Bandipora, Dec 01: The Bandipora chapter of People’s Democratic Party on Saturday claimed victory in the majority of the blocks of Bandipora constituency and said that the candidates backed by PDP won a majority of the seats in the block undergone polls so far.

        In a statement issued today, party’s district spokesperson said rival Congress party received a major setback on Saturday after PDP registered a win on the majority of the Panchayat Halqas in Arin block of Bandipora assembly segment.

        “As per the details, PDP-backed candidates who were in the fray for Sarpanch posts, got a thumping majority against its rival candidates, mostly backed by the Congress party, he said.

        He said the PDP-backed candidates registered a win on 10 Sarpanch Halqas of Arin block and majority of the Panch wards. “PDP-backed candidates won 3 Panchayat Halqas out of 4 which went to polls on Saturday during the 6th phase of ongoing Panchayat elections across the state”.

        “The total tally of Sarpanch Halqas in Arin block bagged by the PDP was 10 as already 7 PDP-backed Sarpanch candidates declared elected unopposed after no rival party could contest again at them from the respective Halqas”.

        The spokesperson said in earlier phases of the election, PDP won the majority of the Panchayat Halqas in Aloosa and Bandipora panchayat blocks. He said the Congress backed Panch lost from the former legislators’ native village Garoora to the PDP backed candidate. “This is a major setback to the Congress as the party couldn't even win a Panch ward from the home turf of its leader in Garoora village,” he added.
