LMD Bandipora imposes fine on passenger vehicle for over-charging

Bandipora, November 20: Legal Metrology Bandipora conducted extensive checking of various business establishments at Bandipora and adjoining areas.

 

Department on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 3000 on the driver of a passenger vehicle for over-charging passengers while travelling from Gurez to Bandipora.


According to Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Bandipora, Mohammad Amin Bhat, a passenger filed the complaint before couple of days against the driver of Tata Sumo bearing No JK05B-9420 for over-charging fair them while travelling from Gurez to Bandipora.

Taking cognizance of the complaint of the passenger on being overcharged, the department registered a complaint and investigated the matter. “During the investigation, the complaint was found genuine and a fine of Rs 3000 was imposed on the erring driver,” said an official.
Bhat urged the people to cooperate with the department by informing them about the violations of rules with regard to the legal metrology and said that strict action will be taken against the erring traders or transporters for over-charging.

The department has directed all the traders of the district to use only verified weights and Measures for business transactions and ensure that all the package commodities sold to the consumers must bear the MRP, PKD, Net Content, complete address and consumer care number.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
Since two months LMD has booked several booksellers, Petrol Pump owners and Schools for violating of LMD rules and register relevant cases against them.
