GDC Bandipora discusses role of youth to ensure transparency in Governance

Holds a day-long seminar on the topic in collaboration with JK Police

Bandipora, Oct 31: Government Degree College Bandipora in collaboration with JK Police on Wednesday organised a day-long seminar on the topic, Transparency in Governance: Role of Youth.

The speakers highlighted the role of youth in ensuring transparency in governance. While elaborating on the theme, speakers said mere good governance is not enough; but it has to be pro-people and pro-active as Good governance puts people at the centre of the development process.

 

Justice (Rtd) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani urged the youth to be conscious about their role in society and play their role in the development of a conscious society.

He said we are living in an age of youth as there are more youth today, in terms of numbers and the proportion in the overall population than ever before in human history. He said while other nations are getting older, J&K is getting younger.

It is worth noting that currently, 48% of the Kashmir valleys’ population falls within the age group of fifteen to thirty years. He said Youth are vital, potential agents for positive societal change. “The role of youth in the socio-economic development and overall nation-building is well recognized”.

He said a well educated, socially and politically conscious youth will guarantee a strong nation

He said essentially, the task of any society is to reconstruct and revitalize itself, build its own capabilities and educate, organize and mobilize the citizens with the view to ensuring that democratic space is expanded; democratic culture is deepened, and democracy itself is consolidated and made to become sustainable and irreversible.

Many students, professors and Police officials presented their papers during the seminar and presented their views with regard to the topic.

Speakers stressed that an environment that enables youth to help address community issues should also be encouraged. “These could include opportunities to affect change to the local education system and support localized entrepreneurial capacity”.

They suggested creating a network of knowledge sharing and learning on Good Governance and anti-corruption issues among the youth by encouraging the use of the web to develop new forms of social and global citizenship

Professor Ismail Ashna, GM Lone, Principal of the college HG Mustafa, Vice Principal Dr Parveen Kounsar spoke on the occasion and resented their views.
