Bandipora, Oct 23: Even after three days administration has failed to save one of the oldest chinar in Aloosa that is on fire from past few days.

Locals said a chinar is caught fire in Aloosa village of Bandipora on Sunday and since then fire tenders are dousing it but invain as the top of Chinar is on fire and water can’t reach upto the top. “The only thing Fire tenders are doing is that is baring the sparks from spreading to the vicinity,” they said.

They said the sparks emitting out can create havoc as the farmers around have piled up their paddy crop in nearby fields. The fire has forced the locals to spend nights in their fields to save their crops from fire.

Locals say the Chinar can be saved if the particular affected branch can be trimmed. Else the whole chinar will get destroyed and will also damage the crops or even houses nearby. “If wind blows during night, whole crop will get destroyed in the village. It will be a disaster,” they said.

Locals say the Fire Services could not control the fire as water cannot douse it but cutting the affected branches will solve the purpose. They appealed the Deputy Commissioner to pass immediate orders to the concerned officers to trim the particular branches to save the  Chinar and avert any disaster.
